Breaking Down the Give-and-Go!

Hello Ultimate Frisbee Players!

Today we are going to talk about the Give-and-Go technique! In scrimmages, you often see players tearing apart the defence, passing the disc to one and in a good position in front to receive the disc in a spilt second!

This is known as the give and go technique and today we are going to break it down into parts for you to understand how it goes!

1) The Throw

As you begin the throw, get ready by placing your weight on the balls of your feet (in the picture as shown above). Do not put too much weight on the ball of your pivot foot as people may call travel on you.

2) The Push Off

Once the throw is done, fully push off from the balls of your feet to begin your run/sprint, giving you mobility and speed across any direction you go to!

Also, here are some tips to further improve the technique!

1) Literally Give and Go

Once the disc leaves your hand, it is ready to go to the direction that you are aiming for, in order to get the headstart and speed you need to get away from your opponent who is marking you. Have faith in your receiver receiving the disc successful, who trust in you providing an option for him/her as well!

2) Go with all your might!

When you give the disc the disc to your receiver, sprint hard to provide the options for your receiver! Any slow down may actually block your receiver and remove any potential options that s/he can pass to other than you!

3) Sharp Cuts

The Give-and-Go technique is essentially still a cut, so you have to make the 'go' part at about 45 degree from where you throw to ensure that your cut is effective and will result in the maximum distance away from your marker! (more on this in the next few post on improving your effectiveness of cutting!)

4) Go completely!

if the receiver you gave the disc to do not throw you the disc back to you, do not worry! Keep running and cut as per normal! Who knows whether a huck might be coming your way or a throw from the receiver that got the disc from the person you threw to previously! The possibilities of a Give-and-Go is endless! (except maybe your stamina)

That is all from me! Hope that you all learned more about the give and go technique! In addition, here are some articles which breaks down the give-and-go technique even further!
