IVP Games 2015!
Hello Ultimate Frisbee Players!
To continue on with last weekend's exhilarating ultimate action, we have the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) games for Ultimate Frisbee! The IVP Games (Nanyang Polytechnic Invitationals), as the name suggests, pits educational institutions comprising of universities and polytechnics in a two-day tournament to see who is the best among them all! At the same time, it also seeks to foster goodwill and friendship among the participating instiitutions.
Would SMU carry on to defend their crown against a resurging Nanyang Polytechnic to take the IVP title for a third consecutive year? Let us now look at how the two days of IVP 2015 played out!
Day 1 (Saturday 28th March): Pool Plays
Day 1 kicks off matches among pools to decide the seedings for the following day's knockout matches! The teams are spilt into two pools where they would scrimmage against one another! here are the pools and the results for day 1!
Pool A: SMU, NTU, SIM, NP
Pool B: NUS, NYP, TP and SP

Day 2: Knockout Matches (Sunday 29th March)
Day 2 marks the start of the knockout matches where teams would compete all the way from the quarter-finals all the way to the finals! Talk about the physical and mental strength that all these players have to possess to remain calm and composed in all their games! And to make things a little big more challenging, it started to rain heavily and the games had to be temporarily suspended :(

Quarter-Finals!
After much waiting, the games resumed and SMU prevailed over NTU to reach semi-finals #1, despite some valiant efforts from the NTU players.

NYP also moved to semi-finals #1 as well, winning over NP!
On the other side, NUS won SP to reach semi-finals #2, facing SIM who won against TP!

Semi-Finals!
The first semi-finals was NUS against SIM. NUS took center stage with their clinical plays and monstrous defence to score a victory against SIM, who put in their extra best as well!

The second semi-finals was between the two rival teams - NYP vs SMU! It was initally close at first with both team trading points against one another. However, NYP managed to pull away from SMU with their clinical plays and capitalisation of the mistakes made by SMU to eventually take the game 13-7. It was heavy hearts for team SMU, who ran their hearts out to defend their IVP title. Heads up SMU Ultimate! Come back stronger next year to challenge for the title once again!

Finals!
For the finals, NYP took on NUS, who triumphed over SIM during the other semi-finals. It was a nail-biting final, with both sides locked in a long physical and mental battle.

In the end, it was NYP who took the universe point over NUS to take the IVP title for 2015!
On the other hand, SIM won SMU to take 3rd and 4th place respectively! What a way to end off IVP 2015, with many upsets and exciting plays from all the participating teams.
