Top 3 Ultimate Game Videos recommended by Ultimate Leh!

Hello Ultimate Frisbee Players!

There are many videos out there showing Ultimate games from all over the world, from US all the way to Southeast Asia! Hence, for this week's post, here are the top 3 videos of ultimate games that I feel which would help you along in improving your game! These videos helped me along my journey as an Ultimate Frisbee player and you should know about it too! Without further ado, let us begin!

1) For clear view of fundamental offensive formations..

Sockeye vs Nexgen (Nexgen Tour 2011)

This was the first year that Nexgen started touring across America, playing against top clubs with their very own all-star team, filled with top and aspiring talents from clubs and colleges! This particular video had a good bird's eye view and it shows good execution of fundamental formations such as vertical and horizontal stack! Check it out over here!

2) To see how fluid a game of Ultimate can be..

Buzz Bullets's Videos (Generally most of them)

Buzz Bullets is one of my favourite teams to watch in Ultimate. Their throws are stable and they are able to bring the disc fluidly up the fields, demonstrating finese and good flow. They are a very competent team and have been up against teams that are taller and faster than them! It is also a good role model team to aim for in your ultimate career!

3) To see how good Singaporean teams are..

Shiok vs Rascals (Asia-Oceanic Ultimate Club Championship 2013(AOUCC))

Singapore had the privelege to organise and hold AOUCC, one of World Flying Disc Foundation's (WFDF) signature events! It features Asia-Oceanic countries such as Australia, Taiwan and Singapore in an exhilarating tournament of Ultimate Frisbee! It is also the time when Ultimate Frisbee broadcasting companies in the region like Ulti.tv, came to Singapore to record Ultimate Matches! Hence we have the chance to capture the plays of local teams in action!

This video features two of the power houses in Singapore's Ultimate! If you want to join an Ultimate Frisbee club in Singapore, these are the capabilities that you would have to possess in order to do so! (Disclaimer: skill levels may differ now in 2015, with the video being 2 years old)

In order to facilitate easier learning through the videos, here are some tips I recommend:

!) Find a player in the video that is usually playing your position and watch him/her closely!

2) Observe how players get into open spaces to receive discs. Getting into open spaces is crucial in a game of Ultimate Frisbee, no matter what position you play!

3) Observe end zone plays. Usually in a game of Ultimate, the end zone gets very cluttered when a disc is near it. Videos of high-level club teams are able to execute set plays to reduce the clutter, leading to an easier score!
