The Road to Tryouts #1: Which club to choose?

Hello Ultimate Frisbee Players!

As I kicked off my journey to tryouts, there is one question that may stump many players' minds: which club do I want to play for?

There are many factors one would consider when choosing a club to tryout for, as choosing a club is similar to choosing your first job. It defines who you are as a player and your playing career ahead. Let me help you by listing on some factors I myself consider when choosing a club!

1) Playing Style

Ultimate Frisbee Ultimate Clubs have their own unique playing styles. Some like to focus on hucking or some like to rely on their incredibly strong defence team. Find one that suit your style as a player!

2) Familiarity With Club Members

Do you play better with people you know? Then, joining a club full of your friends or buddies would definitely help you in the long run. In addition, they could tell you more in depth about the club!

However, it is also important to consider that these people are familiar with your skills and attributes as well. That also include your weaknesses as well! They might have a preconcieved notion of you, and this might limit any room for any development you may desire. If you are that kind of player, maybe joining a whole new club would help as it provides a clean slate for you to progress further as a player!

3) Aim of the Club

Various clubs have various aims and goals that may coincide with what you have in mind. If you want global exposure, go for a club that aims to participate in regional and global tournaments. If you want to develop your skills, maybe go for a club that focuses on the development of its players. If you are unsure what you want, you could go for a club that is a jack of all trades.

4) Playing Opportunity as an Ultimate Player

Playing opportunities are vital for a Ultimate player if he wants to develop further in mastering his or her skills. If a club is full of professionak and experienced players, it might be harder to have more playing time. Choose your club accordingly if you are focused on the amount of playing time as a player!

Based on these factors, I have made a decision and would be going to the club's tryouts this January. Have you made yours too? if so, see you at the tryouts! :)
