Tips on Frisbee Throws

Hello aspiring frisbee players!

After watching video on the previous post, are you all still having some trouble learning the throws? Here are some tips on how . These tips apply to mid-distance throws as long distance throws, or known as hucks, would require a different ball game itself. They worked for me but they might differ for you so do take note!

General tips that applies to basic throws (Backhand, Forehand)

Grip Tight. Gripping the disc tight would allow you to transfer your flick onto the disc to drive it into the throw. you would not want the disc to leave your hand so abruptly like this girl:

Keep It Flat. By keeping your disc flat as if you are balancing a cup of water on it, you would be able to apply the drive from your flick to the disc more effectively, and it would not be affected by any wind that is acting on the underside of the disc. Tilting of the disc would come in useful for long throws, something which I am still mastering as of now.

Flick and not Strength. It is not about how much strength you gather like throwing a discus, it is the flick that comes from your wrist that gives the disc distance! In addition, too much strength would cause the disc to go haywire as well. The smallest part of your arm create the biggest force, pretty much like this:

Fingers facing intended direction after release. Upon release, finish off with your fingers generally pointing to the direction of your intended target, it acts as a gauge for your direction.

Hope that these few tips would help in your throwing! :) In addition here are some websites and videos which I learned my throwing from. These websites also have other tidbits about Ultimate Frisbee in general, so it might answer some of your queries as well!

And this is just in! Shiok! Singapore just played against Croccali Italy, playing hard and spirited as I watched the stream. However they still lost the game 13-17. Fight on Singapore! Anyway, here is the link for the game which should still be free and available (I just checked).

Keep on playing Ultimate!
